The following shops and businesses can be seen; Benefit Shoes, Farm Stores Ltd. pork butchers, Chic Modes Ltd. ladies outfitters, J. Sears and Co. (True Form Boot Co.) boot and shoe dealers, Cable Shoes, Hitchen and Sons Ltd. fancy drapers, Maypole Dairy Co. Ltd. The sign for Samuel Smith, Tadcaster Ales is above the General Elliot public house, still open in 2008. Kirkgate is busy with pedestrians and traffic.
