30th May 1868 This engraving was printed in the Illustrated London News and accompanied an article detailing the Prince of Wales visit to Leeds to open the National Fine Arts Exhibition on the 26th May, he attended a ball at the Town Hall. The ball was given by Mayor and Mrs Fairbairn and Victoria Hall was richly decorated for the occasion, with crystal chandeliers and floral displays. The Prince danced the first dance with Mrs Fairbairn.
